Job description

Provides professional and technical service to members on their liability, property, and ancillary insurance needs. Acts as the primary interface with assigned member accounts.

Job Functions/Duties

  • Gathers information, prepares, and provides quotes to members and potential members on their liability, property, and ancillary insurance needs.
  • Underwrites property coverage and markets ancillary coverage.
  • Answers member queries on coverage needs, limits of coverage, additions, policy wording, etc. Recommends coverage as necessary.
  • Assists the Insurance Services team in the preparation of requests for proposals for MIABC members and prospective members.
  • Assists in corresponding with reinsurers to obtain facultative coverage as required.
  • Assists in identifying and developing new insurance products.
  • Prepares binders and binds coverage for new and renewal policies.
  • Reviews documentation (certificates, invoices, etc.) prepared by the Insurance Services Administrator. Prepares documentation during absences and peak periods.
  • Works with Claims team to ensure progress of property claims and provides updates to members as required.
  • Nurtures good working relationships with underwriters, brokers, other service providers and members.
  • Provides back-up to other members of the Insurance Services team during absences.
  • Promotes and represents the MIABC as a professional association by visiting members, presenting education sessions, and attending various industry events.
  • Follows MIABC service standards, policies and procedures.
  • Participates, as a committee member, the MIABC’s internal Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program.
  • Protects MIABC and member confidentiality.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees and members in a spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the insurance industry, including new products, by attending continuing education seminars, reading insurance publications, and liaising with industry personnel.
  • Other miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

  • Level 2 BC Insurance License mandatory.
  • 5 – 7 years of Commercial Insurance experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of insurance for local governments preferred.
  • Insurance designation (CAIB, CIP, CRM) preferred.
  • MGA/underwriting experience an asset.
  • Good technical insurance knowledge for interpretation and development of policy language.
  • Professional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
